A search continued Friday in Zion National Park for a 79-year-old man who vanished earlier this week.
John Fiske Burg, no hometown listed, was last seen Tuesday morning at a Springdale, Utah, motel where he had been staying with a group of 50 hikers, a park release said. He reportedly told some of the group that he was planning to hike the Canyon Overlook Trail.
Burg's vehicle was found at the trail's trailhead.
Burg was described as standing 5-foot-9 and weighing about 220 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and no facial hair. The park release said he might have been wearing the following items: a light yellow shirt, a dark colored backpack with a two-way radio hanging from the left shoulder strap, shorts, black over light red Salomon ankle-high hiking shoes, and a white visor hat with neck guard.
Burg also was known to use two trekking poles.
Park officials ask that if you have any information regarding Burg that you contact the National Park Service tip line at (888) 653-0009.
