Not since 2002 has Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Tennessee and Kentucky been so popular as it was in 2021, when visitation reached 834,724.
That turnout represented a nearly 10 percent increase over 2020 visitation, when COVID-19 shuttered facilities in most parks for at least part of the year. Back in 2002 the park counted 852,873 visitors.
“It’s wonderful to see so many new and repeat visitors, both local, and from out-of-town, continuing to find solace and inspiration in this incredible place during the second year of the pandemic,” said Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas. “Whatever outdoor recreational experience you’re looking for in 2022, Big South Fork is here to discover."
