Erosion Threatens Railroad Tracks At Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Streambank erosion by the Cuyahoga River has prompted an emergency riverbank stablization project at Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio to prevent railroad tracks from being impacted, the park announced Friday.

In less than a week the river has chewed away at the riverbank in Brecksville near the Columbia Run picnic area. "Out of an abundance of caution, the National Park Service and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad have determined that train operations will be modified to avoid the area until the repairs are complete," a park release said,.

The river is a dynamic system, and it is constantly changing.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park is committed to continually assessing track conditions, especially near the river, and maintaining the tracks for safe train operations.
