Another solar eclipse is coming to the National Park System in April 2024/NPS file
August 21, 2017, was a very, very busy day for Grand Teton National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tallgrass Praire National Preserve, Homestead National Monument of America and many other units of the National Park System that were in line for the solar eclipse that day.
With great interest in solar eclipses, it's not too early to begin planning your trip to a park unit that will be in the path of the eclipse coming on April 8, 2024.
According to data compiled by the National Park Service a handful of parks will experience a complete solar eclipse on that day, with Waco Mammoth National Monument in Texas expected to be in the dark for 4 minutes, 18 seconds. Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, also in Texas, will be right behind, with 4 minutes, 13 seconds of totality.
The total eclipse on April 8, 2024, is predicted to stretch from Texas on an arc through Ohio and upstate New York into Maine, where it will cross Kathadin Woods and Waters National Monument.
You can check out the route, and the time of totality in parks, at this website.
