A 34-year-old Utah woman died from a fall while on a river trip through Grand Canyon National Park.
A park release said Margaret Osswald, of Salt Lake City, was near Ledges Camp at river mile 152 when she fell about 20 feet at about 6:30 p.m. Monday and sustained fatal injuries. While she received CPR from others on the trip, when Arizona Department of Public Safety emergency staff arrived via helicopter at approximately 8:30 p.m. they pronounced her deceased.
Osswald had hiked into the canyon to meet the river trip at Phantom Ranch and was on day six of a multi-day private boating trip. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
