Floodwaters are creating problems at Voyageurs National Park/NPS
Floodwaters have forced closures around Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota, ranging from the Rainy Lake Visitor Center and boat launch to many operations at Kettle Falls.
Temporary closures in the park include:
- The Rainy Lake Boat Launch at the Rainy Lake visitor Center is closed until floodwaters recede and staff can assess damage to the area.
- Those engaging in flood mitigation efforts may utilize the boat launch for the loading of material, such as sandbags, to engage in property protection.
- The lower parking lot at the Rainy Lake Boat Launch is closed to all parking.
- All campsites on Rainy Lake, except houseboat sites, are closed.
Additionally, at Kettle Falls the hotel operations, dining and bar services, and portage services are closed. The Villas and fuel remain open at this time.
The park also has extended all backcountry closures through the end of June. The likelihood is that closures may be further extended based on conditions as that date approaches, and other closures/restrictions may be defined. Additionally, the park is enforcing a "no wake" zone of 300' from any shoreline.
Still open at this time are the Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center or Ash River Visitor Center boat launch sites.
