Editor's note: This updates with the road open again.
A rockfall temporarily limited access to Zion National Park via the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway, closing the road Wednesday afternoon from Canyon Junction to the East Entrance Station.
Maintenance crews were able to remove the debris and reopen the road later that evening. Before they did so, though, crews used water pumped from a fire truck to knock down loose rocks and soil on the hillside above the road.
The rockfall did not damage any vehicles or cause any injuries.
Rockfalls happen relatively frequently along the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway. You can check Zion National Park’s website to see alerts about the status of the road.
