Roadwork set to return next week to the Generals Highway in Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks will create some traffic delays for visitors.
The road connects the two parks in California. The roadwork, set to start Monday, is to continue throughout the summer and fall. Short stretches of road will be sealed and resurfaced. If you encounter one of these construction zones, expect delays of up to 30 minutes during the day, and up to one hour at night. Road work will stop for the weekend on Fridays at 6 p.m. and resume on Sundays at 8 p.m.
The work schedule is as follows:
- Monday – Thursday: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.: 30-minute delays
- Friday: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. - 30-minute delays
- Friday 6 p.m. – Sunday 8 p.m.: No delays
- Monday – Friday: 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. One-hour delays
The National Park Service says this is a large-scale, multiple-year project that is crucial for maintaining the main route of access through Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, driven by millions of visitors every year. The project will also include some parking lots and campgrounds.
