Searchers at Olympic National Park on Wednesday recovered the body of a 38-year-old climber who was traveling solo in the park and failed to return from his planned trek.
Sean Allen planned to go from Royal Basin to Home Lake, and park officials said he might have tried to climb Mount Mystery, Hal Foss Peak, and Little Mystery. The body of the climber was spotted fro the air Wednesday afternoon on the southern end of Mount Mystery approaching the Del Monte ridgeline. The helicopter was able to drop off a search team on the ground. The team performed the recovery operation with helicopter support.

Search and Rescue personnel had hiked into the wilderness on Tuesday to begin a hasty search of the area after Allen was reported missing. The National Park Service exclusive-use contract helicopter from North Cascades National Park was also activated to assist with the search on Tuesday and returned to the air Wednesday.
Search teams from Olympic National Park and Olympic Mountain Rescue had gone into the field covering routes from the Upper Dungeness Trail and around Royal Basin. Washington State Search and Rescue Planning Unit was assisting with the search.
