Firefighters put out hot spots on a slope at the Chetamon wildfire in Jasper National Park/Parks Canada
A new incident management team has taken over for the Chetamon wildfire in Jasper National Park and firefighters heading on days off have been replaced by new crews from other Parks Canada locations.
As of Sunday, Parks Canada has 81 firefighting personnel and five helicopters dedicated to the Alberta fire that was started Sept. 1 by a lightning strike.
Due to a forecast that calls for lower temperatures and more rain, the wildfire continues to be held and isn’t expected to grow beyond 6,000 hectares (14,800 acres).
No communities are at risk.
The focus remains to extinguish hot spots along the perimeter of the wildfire to help reduce the risk of any remaining fire burning underground and popping up again in the winter or spring.
