Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site and Kejimkujik National Park Seaside will temporarily close beginning at noon on Friday as Hurricane Fiona approaches Nova Scotia.
Hurricane Fiona is expected to hit Atlantic Canada and Eastern Quebec this weekend with heavy rainfall and hurricane-force winds. It may transition from a hurricane to a post-tropical storm, growing in scale, covering even more territory and becoming a historic storm.
Visitors and campers inside Kejimkujik will be asked to leave and new visitors will not be permitted to enter. Guests with camping reservations including the nights of Sept. 23 through 26 will be contacted and their reservations cancelled and fees fully refunded.
This closure will remain in place until conditions are safe. The next public update is planned for Sept. 27 at noon.
Parks Canada is also monitoring any possible impacts on other national parks and national historic sites in the region. It will be updating its website and social media channels, but given the possibility of power outages, asks visitors to contact sites directly before visiting in the coming days.
