After Miette Hot Springs shuts down Oct. 10 in Jasper National Park, the Miette Road will close its main gates to visitor traffic creating a quieter road for cycling or walking.
Miette Road — available Oct. 12 until the first significant snowfall — offers a moderate to challenging ride that is 29 kilometres (18 miles) return. Access the road by parking at the Punchbowl Falls gate just before Miette Campground.
“You’ll feel the road climbing steadily for the first 3.5 kilometres, gaining 220 metres in elevation,” the park said in a news release. “Then you’ll enjoy an easy ride and a long descent before an extended and steady climb to the hot springs. Take in the gorgeous views before turning around and doing the road in reverse.”
Parks Canada warns cyclists to expect to encounter operational vehicles on Miette Road, and to follow the rules of the road on all biking routes at all times.
