A 17-year-old male fell approximately 25 feet to his death near the Otter Cliff area in Acadia National Park on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Park rangers and the Bar Harbor police and fire departments responded to the scene at approximately noon. The individual was hiking with friends when he fell. Park rangers and other first responders performed CPR. MDI Search and Rescue assisted with the technical recovery of the deceased.
The National Park Service reported the incident to the Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner, which is charged with the investigation of unexpected deaths. No further information is available at this time.
Park rangers simultaneously responded to two separate bicycle accidents resulting in injuries on the Park Loop Road, which is scheduled to open to motor vehicles on Saturday, April 15.
