Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site is open for the season and will be offering guided heritage tours, heritage stations and a WWI trench activity area.

The Gravenhurst, Ontario site is the place to discover Dr. Norman Bethune, a battlefront surgeon, medical pioneer and advocate for Canada’s universal health care.

Visitors can join a guided heritage tour of the historic house, participate in the Parks Canada Xplorers program, experience heritage stations including a World War I trench activity area and Victorian-era clothing and toy activities, and explore the gardens with interpreters. Groups can book guided tours in advance.

The site opened May 18 and the season runs to Oct. 31.

Until June 30, it’s open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. From July 1 to Sept. 4, it’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. And from Sept. 5 to Oct. 31, it’s open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
