All backcountry reservations for Waterton Lakes National Park for now through Oct. 10 must be made online through the Parks Canada reservation service. This replaces the old system requiring campers to call the visitor center to reserve a spot.
In 2024, backcountry campsites at the Alberta park will be reservable for the entire reservable period from the launch date (date TBD), rather than on a 90-day rolling window. Days outside of the reservable period, may continue to be booked by telephone at 403-859-5133.
A backcountry use permit is required for overnight stays. Permits can be purchased online and must be picked up at the visitor center no sooner than 24 hours in advance of the start date of the trip.
Waterton’s campgrounds are equipped with outhouses, tent pads, food storage bins and picnic tables.
