The Quaker Run Fire has forced closure of Big Meadows Lodge at Shenandoah National Park/Virginia Department of Forestry

A slow-moving wildfire that has burned into Shenandoah National Park in Virignia has led to closure of the Big Meadows Lodge because of an extended power outage.

A post on the park's Facebook page said the power outage forced closure of the lodge, its restaurants and retail outlets. As the lodge was scheduled to close November 12, the closure Monday marked the end of the season for it, according to the post.

Skyland Resort and Lewis Mountain Cabins are open and fully operational and some availability remains if you’re planning a trip, the noticed added.

The Quaker Run Fire, which was spotted October 26 in the Rapidan Wildlife Management Area, approached a powerline near the eastern boundary of the park last week. Power was suspended to ensure safety of firefighters in the area.
