A shooting Wednesday on the Blue Ridge Parkway left one person hospitalized/NPS file

A shooting Wednesday on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina south of Asheville wounded an individual and led to closure of a roughly 12-mile stretch of the famed roadway while officers searched for the shooter.

Park rangers were called about 2 p.m. and alerted to a shooting near milepost 398. That led to closure of the parkway between mileposts 393.6 and 405.

"A single shooting victim has been transported to a local hospital and early investigations indicate this is a targeted crime and there is no threat to the public," a park release said. "No additional details are available at this time."
