Padre Island National Seashore has closed in advance of Tropical Storm Beryl, which was expected to grow back into a hurricane before reaching the Texas coast on Monday/Rebecca Latson file

With Tropical Storm Beryl and its growing fury turning towards the Gulf Coast of Texas, the National Park Service closed Padre Island National Seashore to the public.

In a short "alert" on the seashore's website, the Park Service said Friday that "[T]he park will remain closed until further notice." No further details were available.

The National Weather Service's Corpus Christi office said Beryl was expected to return to hurricane force before reaching the Texas coastline on Monday. A storm surge up to 5 feet was predicted for parts of the coastline, and tornadoes could form, the Weather Service said.
