Though no longer a tropical storm, post-tropical cyclone Debby packed enough bluster to knock out power at lodges in Shenandoah National Park on Friday.
"Due to damaging storms, power is out throughout Shenandoah National Park," the park's main concessionaire, Delaware North, reported on its website. "Currently, Big Meadows Wayside, Big Meadows Lodge and Loft Camp are operational and open. We are without power and closed at Skyland, Lewis Mountain, Elkwallow and Loft Wayside. Thank you for your patience as crews work to restore power."
National Park Service staff at the park reported that crews were working to remove trees downed by the storm.
"There are disruptions from the recent wind and rain event including power outages and downed trees. Be aware of delays during the removal of multiple downed trees as crews assess Skyline Drive," the park said on its social media channels. "Both visitor centers are open. Big Meadows Wayside and fueling station remain open. Loft Mountain Campstore, near the campground, remains open. All other concession facilities are closed at this time due to power outages."
Other parks in Virginia impacted by the weather included Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park and Petersburg National Battlefield, which had closed park facilities Friday.
