The Sequoia Parks Conservancy, in partnership with the National Park Service, will host the Dark Sky Festival at Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks this coming weekend. This year’s festival, themed “Discover the Dark,” is packed with stargazing, science, and community events that promise to deepen your connection with the night sky and highlight the importance of preserving natural darkness.

"Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or experiencing the wonder of the night sky for the first time, the Dark Sky Festival promises moments of awe, insight, and connection," said Savannah Boiano, executive director of Sequoia Parks Conservancy

The weekend will be filled with free activities (normal park entry fees apply), a silent auction, and themed ranger-led programs throughout Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks. Be sure to check out the full schedule of events at sequoiaparksconservancy.org/dark-sky-festival.

Saturday night, there will be star parties at Wuksachi Lodge and the Big Stump Picnic Area. You’ll get to gaze at the night sky through telescopes and learn from local astronomers, scientists, and park rangers about the wonders of the cosmos and why it’s so important to protect our dark skies.
