Cumberland Island National Seashore / NPS
Cumberland Island National Seashore officials are proposing four land exchanges. Within the legislative boundary of the Park there are portions of the island that are state owned, privately owned, or owned by other federal entities. By exchanging property with private landowners, the NPS seeks to relocate private interests to other areas where it is more appropriate and less impactful on visitors. The park is seeking public feedback on these exchanges.
The period has been extended to Sunday, October 20th, 2024. During this initial civic engagement period, the park hosted a virtual public meeting. A PDF of the PowerPoint presentation and a closed-caption video have been posted to Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) for those unable to attend. The park is compiling a Frequently Asked Questions document following the virtual public meeting and it will be posted on PEPC soon.
The newsletter, Power Point PDF, and closed-captioned video are available on the project Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) page: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/cuis_land_exchange
We encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas about the information presented in the attached newsletter, during the virtual public meeting, and online at the NPS PEPC website. There will be future public engagement periods, and we appreciate everyone’s thoughtful information and questions.
Comments should be submitted electronically on PEPC, or post marked by October 20, 2024.
