The visitor center at South Dakota's Jewel Cave National Monument will undergo HVAC system upgrades this winter, which may limit some visitor amenities and require occasional closures throughout the season. This project is essential to ensure a safe, well-maintained facility for visitors.
During the HVAC replacement, access to visitor center exhibits may be restricted, with the last planned exhibit access day set for Monday, November 11.
From November 19-21, 2024, the visitor center will be fully closed for HVAC work, and no cave tours will be available.
The visitor center is expected to reopen at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 22. Currently, only November 19-21 are confirmed as full closure dates, but the rest of the park, including the Roof and Canyons Trails, will remain open for use.
Any additional closure dates will be shared on the park’s social media channels and the Alerts & Conditions page on their website. When open, the monument will continue to offer popular Scenic and Discovery Tours, which can be reserved in advance on Recreation.gov.
