Acadia National Park viewed from Cadillac Mountain / NPS
Driving to the summit of Acadia National Park's Cadillac Mountain requires a reservation and the National Park Service has just released the reservation calendar for 2025. This year, you'll need a reservation to make the drive between May 21 and October 26.
Thirty percent of reservations can be booked up to 90 days before the reservation date, while the remaining 70% become available at 10 a.m., two days before the reservation date. The initial release of advance reservations is scheduled for February 20. Reservations are $6, and only sold online — they can't be purchased once you get to the park. You must also have a park entrance pass to enter Acadia.
You do not need a reservation to ride a bike or walk up the summit road (though walking in inadvisable due to traffic).
Cadillac Mountain is, according to the NPS, the highest point on the eastern seaboard at 1,527 feet. The drive to the summit is a slow, winding, 3.5 miles. Views are expansive and breathtaking. It's been a popular lookout spot for visitors since the late 1800s.
