Rocky Mountain National Park and the Rocky Mountain Conservancy are now accepting applications for the 2025 Bailey Research Fellowship. This program offers graduate students the chance to conduct research within the park and share their findings with the public, providing both support and opportunities for professional growth.
Graduate researchers play a vital role in advancing scientific knowledge and deepening our understanding of Rocky Mountain National Park. Previous Bailey Research Fellows have tackled diverse projects, including studying the habitat preferences of white-tailed ptarmigan, the disease vulnerability of boreal toads, the elevation ranges of pika subspecies, riparian ecosystem recovery through plant physiology, and the risk of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in soil and water.
Park and conservancy staff are proud to foster the next generation of scientists and stewards through this fellowship. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate program, demonstrate research excellence, have a career interest in public lands, and be skilled at engaging with public audiences. The fellowship provides housing within the park, a living stipend, and funding for research materials and attendance at professional conferences.
Research topics may include wildlife management, vegetation and riparian studies, fire ecology, cultural sciences, archeology, historic preservation, or work in fields like botany, zoology, geology, history, and ecology. All projects should aim to support adaptive management and informed decision-making for the park or contribute to the education and professional growth of National Park Service staff.
