Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning (TCWP) and the Obed Wild and Scenic River invite you to our annual Cumberland Trail Workday on Saturday, February 8th. Volunteers will gather at Rock Creek Campground at 10:00 a.m. (EST).

We’ll focus on maintaining a 2.5-mile section of the Cumberland Trail between Rock Creek Campground and Alley Ford. After completing the work, participants can relax with a late lunch by the river before hiking back to the campground. The event wraps up around 3:00 p.m. (EST).

What to Expect

Trail maintenance tasks include:

  • Clearing clogged water bars
  • Removing fallen logs and branches
  • Cutting back overgrown brush
  • Restoring sections of the trail base

What to Bring

  • Footwear: Sturdy shoes or boots
  • Tools: Work gloves, shovels, loppers, clippers, and small bow/folding saws (no chainsaws, please). Some tools will be available at the event.
  • Essentials: Weather-appropriate clothing, plenty of water, snacks, and lunch
  • Optional: Sunscreen and bug spray

Weather Policy

In case of bad weather, the workday may be rescheduled.

Come lend a hand, enjoy the great outdoors, and help us keep the Cumberland Trail beautiful.

Support National Parks Traveler

Your support for the National Parks Traveler comes at a time when news organizations are finding it hard, if not impossible, to stay in business. Traveler's work is vital. For nearly two decades we've provided essential coverage of national parks and protected areas. With the Trump administration’s determination to downsize the federal government, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s approach to public lands focused on energy exploration, it’s clear the Traveler will have much to cover in the months and years ahead. We know of no other news organization that provides such broad coverage of national parks and protected areas on a daily basis. Your support is greatly appreciated.
