A broad coalition of outdoor recreation interests, from motorcycle and RV interests to ski areas and the sportfishing industry, has endorsed the nomination of North Dakota Governo Doug Burgam for Interior secretary in the Trump administration.

"Governor Burgum’s history of support for outdoor recreation, the outdoor recreation economy, and the protection of public lands and waters makes his leadership critical for the administration and the department," read a letteer the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable sent to U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, the new chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico, the committee's ranking member.

"Governor Burgum has shown a commitment to supporting outdoor recreation as an economic driver and a meaningful way to connect communities," the letter added.

The letter also acknowledged the many challenges public lands face, "including increased visitation, infrastructure needs, maintenance backlogs, and the impact of extreme weather and natural disasters. Innovative solutions are needed to manage the many challenges facing our public lands and waters and Governor Burgum is positioned to help lead that effort alongside Congressional partners and ORR members."
