Chisha Foka Multi-Use Trail / NPS
The National Park Service has begun renovating the Chisha Foka Multi-Use Trail in Ridgeland, Mississippi, part of the Natchez Trace Parkway. The work will take place in four phases, with different sections of the trail closing as construction moves forward.
The first closure will be from Old Canton Road to the Reservoir Overlook, including the Reservoir Overlook Parking area. Depending on weather conditions and construction progress, this section will be closed for up to two weeks.
“This project involves completely resurfacing 3.5 miles of the trail with new asphalt,” said Facility Manager Mark Holley. “While these closures may be inconvenient, they’re necessary to ensure the safety of both visitors and workers. In the end, the improvements will make the trail smoother and more enjoyable for walkers and cyclists.”
Barricades and signs will clearly mark the closed areas, and anyone entering them may face a citation. Large trucks and heavy machinery will be operating in tight spaces along the trail, making visibility limited for pedestrians.
Once work is finished on one section, it will reopen, and the next segment will close. Future closures will include Old Canton Road to Rice Road, Rice Road to Highway 55, and Old Agency Road to the trail’s southern end.
