Across the park road from the Longmire Historic District in Mount Rainier National Park is the Trail of Shadows, where you’ll encounter several rocked-in mineral springs, one of which is aptly named Rusty Springs (aka Iron Mike Spring).
There’s not much water in this spring and it doesn’t exactly look like you’d want to settle down for a long soak, at one time, this was a popular spot.
For more than 50 years Josie Bassett Morris made this log cabin on Cub Creek home. Now part of Dinosaur National Monument, the cabin is the legacy of a woman who, during her long life, knew Butch Cassidy and lived a rough, rugged, and independent live.
Ok, with all the log cabins in the National Park System, asking you to identify this one might be unfair. And yet, there are some very well traveled parks travelers out there and it's very possible they know where this cabin sits. If you don't, we'll have the answer tomorrow.
Find yourself atop the bluff known as Scotts Bluff at Scotts Bluff National Monument in western Nebraska and you'll find an iron arrow embedded in a stone wall. It points to Laramie Peak in Wyoming, some 100 miles away to the west.
We all need a little help with our directions from time to time, but what's up with this arrow? More specifically, where is it, and what's the story behind it? We'll have the answer tomorrow.
