Crews were working Wednesday to clean up from a torrential rainstorm that dropped an inch of rain on Zion National Park, with more rain possible in the forecast.

California red-legged frogs might be a threatened species, but those in the Santa Monica Mountains of California are proving to be a resilient species, as well. While the November 2018 Woolsey Fire swept across most of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area there, two separate populations of the frogs have been found breeding in the area burned by the fire.

A young grizzly bear was given a boat ride and a visitor to Grand Teton National Park received a citation after the bear was able to obtain human food, and rangers were investigating claims the bear was even fed by visitors in a vehicle.

It's long been stated that investing in national parks brings a boost in economic activity to their surrounding communities, and now that argument is being made to justify designation of the St. Croix Watershed as a National Heritage Area.
