Rule number one when hand-feeding Britain’s only free-ranging reindeer herd is not to touch them. It seems impossible because the charismatic animals nuzzle your cupped hands full of feed with their soft, velvety noses. But you must resist the urge to take things one step further and stroke their furry coats, even as they brush up against you and sniff your pockets.

Crews in Death Valley National Park continue to repair hundreds of miles of roads that were damaged last fall by heavy rains, with the park having reopened nearly 600 miles that had been closed to traffic.

The National Park Service's increasing move to only accept credit cards for entrance to parks has driven three visitors to sue the agency, saying its policy is unreasonable and an abuse of discretion and that federal law states that legal tender is suitable "for all public charges."

Underground access at Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota will be blocked beginning May 1 while the cave's elevator system is replaced and modernized.
