Point Pelee National Park — the Ontario home to songbird and monarch migrations — has cracked the top 10 list of Canada’s most visited national parks in 2021. It joins Banff National Park and Jasper National Park, which stayed securely in first and second place respectively.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park will host the annual synchronous firefly viewing opportunity at Elkmont beginning Friday, June 3 through Friday, June 10. The public may apply for the limited viewing opportunity by entering a lottery for a vehicle pass through www.recreation.gov. The lottery opens for vehicle pass applications on Friday, April 29, at 10 a.m. through Tuesday, May 3, at 10 a.m. All applications, regardless of the time or date of entry, are considered equally in the pool of lottery applicants.

Valles Caldera National Preserve in New Mexico was closed Saturday due to a wildfire burning in the Jemez National Forest, while growing fire conditions prompted other park units in the region to institute restrictions on campfires, grills, lanterns, and smoking in the open.

Visitors to Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota can now reserve cave tour tickets online up to 120 days in advance. Tickets can be purchased through www.recreation.gov, a website used for reservations at thousands of sites across the country.
