It really shouldn't come as a surprise that in places where winters are long, hard, cold, and snowy that your best recourse is to settle down before the fire with a good book. At Voyageurs National Park this winter you'll even be able to discuss that book with the park naturalist.
The park plans to host a book club that focuses on three natural/cultural history-themed books about, not surprisingly, Voyageurs. A park naturalist will lead a discussion about a different book each month starting in January. Following each book discussion, the park naturalist will give a short informal program related to the book.
You are invited to read one or all of the following books and to participate in the book club discussions.
* Gold Town to Ghost Town, January 11, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
* Kettle Falls: The Crossroads of History, February 8, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
* 50 Years in the Minnesota North Country, March 8, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Books are available for sale at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. The park will host all book club discussions at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. Pre-registration is not necessary.
Visitors are encouraged to come early and to browse through the museum and bookstore, and to check out the winter displays in the interactive area.
