The Fight Against Lionfish At Biscayne National Park

Share

Published Date

May 10, 2017

Although commercial and recreational fishing are threatening the delicate marine ecosystem in Biscayne National Park, there’s one fish that the Florida park would be happy to see disappear: the lionfish.

The latest episode of the “Outside Science (inside parks)” series goes underwater as National Park Service biologists work to reduce the “highly noxious” invasive species, which has a voracious appetite, reproduces quickly, and has no natural predators in the area.

The video series, released by the National Park Service and produced by students from Colorado State University, showcases ways “the next generation is getting involved in park science.”
