Today is the last day of National Parks Traveler's mini-fundraiser held in conjunction with News For Good, a national effort to raise awareness of the role and value of nonprofit media organizations. While we're moving in the right direction, we need much, much more to broaden and expand our coverage of national parks and protected areas.
Every day of the year National Parks Traveler brings you articles from across the National Park System. Recent stories have included:
- Work to recover the remains of Civil War soldiers whose graves at Vicksburg National Cemetery were impacted by mudslides and soil collapses;
- An investigation into what caused the Flat Creek Glacier in Denali National Park and Preserve to collapse, research that points to new concerns for glacial detachments as the climate warms;
- A visit to Everglades National Park and the Buttonwood Canal;
- How the coronavirus pandemic is expected to cost Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve 70 percent of its annual budget.
We’ve met Ranger Doug’s $1,000 match, and are close to meeting the $500 match offered by Traveler board member Jim Stratton. Those opportunities move us in the right direction, but we need much, much more to broaden and extend our coverage. Please consider a donation today, as your support is truly critical to enabling Traveler to continue bringing you a wide range of newsworthy, informative, and even provocative stories from across the National Park System.
Thanks to all who have donated. It's greatly appreciated and will go directly toward coverage of national parks and protected areas, not to corporations or shareholders.
