It will be a month, at least, before overnight stays are allowed at the Brooks Camp Developed Area in Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska.

While the park has allowed day visitors to the area, concerns over the spread of Covid-19 have prompted a decision to hold off on overnight stays at both the Brooks Camp Lodge and nearby campground at least until August 10. 

Park staff said they were working closely with the National Park Service's Office of Public Health to ensure key park facilities are safe and clean. They also are conducting risk assessments on an ongoing basis relating to every aspect of operations. 

Given the remoteness of the BCDA and recent increases in COVID-19 cases in gateway communities that provide access to the Brooks Camp Developed Area, park officials have determined to further delay the earliest possible date for overnight accommodations until August 10. If Brooks Camp overnight accommodations become possible this season, the park will formally announce the opening date. 

Areas outside of the BCDA within Katmai National Park and Preserve remain fully accessible to the public in accordance with the latest federal, state, and local health guidance.
