You are one of millions of readers and listeners who follow National Parks Traveler every year, looking for the latest news involving the National Park System and to learn more about your favorite parks. On the Traveler, you can read about Congressional funding for the parks, the threats parks face from wildfires in the West and sea rise in the East, and how to spend three days in, for instance, Redwood National and State Parks.
Traveler is the only media organization that we know of that focuses solely on national parks and protected areas. We need your help to continue to grow our mission.
We are not associated with the National Park Service and receive no support from the agency or the National Park Foundation. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we strive to connect with readers and listeners passionate about the National Park System and who value daily news and features about the more than 400 units in the system.
- With a small network of professional writers, photographers, and podcast producers who are equally passionate about the parks, Traveler brings you more than 1,000 articles and 52 podcasts a year related to the parks.
- Next year, with your support, we'll enter more national parks for our podcast recordings, and work to bring you more articles from lesser known, but just as impressive, units of the park system, places like Great Basin National Park, Tonto National Monument, Fort Monroe National Monument, and Saratoga National Historical Park.
- Of course, we'll also keep you informed on changes to the Endangered Species Act, how climate change is impacting the parks, and what progress is being made to protect parks from overcrowding.
Together, we have a great opportunity through year-end to make Traveler's coverage more robust. Through the national NewsMatch campaign that raises funds for nonprofit media organizations through December 31, we can claim $11,500 in dollar-for-dollar matching funds. That would provide a huge boost in our goal of raising at least $35,000 during this period.
The match will be provided through the generosity of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Democracy Fund, Facebook Journalism Project, Inasmuch Foundation, the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust, Jonathan Logan Family Foundation, Natasha and Dirk Ziff, Present Progressive Fund at Schwab Charitable, and The S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation.
This match is a catalyst that will help inspire donations from our readers; it’s not a panacea, and reflects only a fraction of what we need to operate on an annual basis. Landing that match would, though, provide a huge boost in our goal of raising at least $35,000 during this period.
And equally important is that your support enables readers around the world to follow the Traveler without having to hurdle a paywall, and so builds more support for national parks and protected areas. If you can't make a donation, consider choosing the Traveler through AmazonSmile when you shop online.

What a win-win for all of us readers with the donation match! We get informative coverage of the parks and National Parks Traveler gets enhanced funding.
