Parks Canada is doing its annual hiring blitz for summer students keen to work in national parks and at national historic sites across the country.
The jobs pay between $15 and $24.77 an hour (that’s $12 to almost $20 USD) and the deadlines to apply range from next week through May.
To apply, you must be a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution and at least 14 years old. You must have legal status to work in Canada with Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or a work permit.
It goes without saying that you must be “excited to work outdoors.” Current job postings on the Parks Canada website include everything from student heritage presenter, student visitor services attendant and resource conservation student, to grounds maintenance student, coastal steward and social media, promotions and outreach.
The Rideau Canal National Historic Site and Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site have postings in lock operations. The Manitoba Field Unit has a post for Treaty One Commemoration/Indigenous Officer Assistant. Banff National Park has a job for a student attendant in aquatic invasive species prevention.
Most of the jobs run from May to September and some require candidates to be bilingual in English and French. Preference will be given to those who self-identify as a youth facing an employment barrier. Preference may also be given to qualified candidates who belong to an employment equity group such as Indigenous, visible minorities or persons with a disability.
