The Bear Creek Loop Horse Trail following repairs/NPS

Trail crews at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Kentucky and Tennessee have completed the repair and rehabilitation of both Station Camp Creek and Bear Creek Loop Horse Trails, which had suffered under heavy rain events that occurred from 2019-2021.

Trail surfaces were graded, washouts and muddy areas were filled, and grade dips were established to prevent future erosion. Exposed sandstone beds were filled and re-graded. All encroaching vegetation was removed from the trail corridor. The trails are now ready for you to enjoy.

Additional rainfall could result in future damage or debris on the trail(s). Trail users are reminded to use caution on any trail in the park during or after heavy rain. Wet, muddy, and debris scattered trail conditions can lead to greater chances of slips, trips, and falls.

Before beginning a hike, always check the status of the trails and the weather forecast, and after your hike, please report trail damage to the Trails Condition Reporting Hotline at 423-569-7302, or via email at [email protected].
