Recent storms that have rolled through California have spawned flooding that damaged the South Fork Campground and nearby trails in Sequoia National Park. The storms not only brought flooding, but also triggered landslides in the park.
The 10-site campground, located in a remote area of the foothills on the South Fork of the Kaweah River, away from main park highways and features, is currently unusable and closed, and the road has suffered severe damage and is impassable, the park said on social media.
"We strongly discourage hikers or day users from attempting to explore this area, as both the road and the hillsides may be unstable, and should you need help, it would be very difficult to provide it," the statement added.
Damage from the recent storms is still being assessed in Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks.
