A dozen years after the National Park Service spent $13.5 million to build a new visitor and exhibit hall at Dinosaur National Monument in Utah, the agency is spending nearly $600,000 to replace the visitor center's heating and cooling system.
It was in October 2011 when the Park Service held a grand opening for the visitor center and exhibit hall, which replaced a much older facility that had structural issues.
The just announced construction project costs about $577,000 and will replace the current duct work and install a new heating and cooling system at the Quarry Visitor Center.
The visitor center will close on October 23 while staff move into temporary facilities located in the parking lot. During construction, the visitor center will be closed, and staff will provide visitor services in temporary facilities in the visitor center parking lot beginning on Saturday, October 28. The project is expected to be completed by March 30, 2024.
The Quarry Exhibit Hall will remain open and access to the dinosaur fossils in the Quarry Exhibit Hall will not be affected by this project.
Funding for the project was provided the National Park Service Repair/Rehabilitation Fund.

Any reason given by the NPS why a 12-yr old HVAC system needs to be replaced?
