A marina fire early Sunday morning at Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada destroyed or damaged about 15 boats according to the National Park Service.

The fire broke out about 12:30 a.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina. Interagency personnel were able to contained the fire "within hours," a park release said. The cause was not immediately determined.

The marina remains open to the public, but Park Service officials issued a partial area closure of the harbor's 'R' and 'I' docks as the investigation remains ongoing.

Visitors should exercise caution when accessing Hemenway Harbor and open portions of Las Vegas Boat Harbor due to potential safety concerns, the park release said.
