The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) and FarOut — the top navigational app for long-distance trails — announced a partnership that will enhance the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) mapping resources available on the FarOut app and ATC member benefits.
As the only non-profit devoted to protecting, managing and advocating for the entirety of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and its landscape, the ATC has been a trusted source of information on the nearly 2,200-mile, world-renowned treadway, trail features and hiking conditions over the last century. The ATC guidebooks, maps and digital resources provide detailed, mile-by-mile data to help A.T. hikers plan their adventures.
Thanks to this new partnership, all hikers, whether long-distance or day-hiker, using the A.T. trail guides via the FarOut app will now have access to the same expert and up-to-date information on the Trail from the ATC.
Jeri Ward, ATC Chief Growth Officer, stated: “We’re thrilled to partner with FarOut to provide essential knowledge across a variety of platforms to help A.T. visitors have safe and fulfilling Trail experiences. Now, hikers can have an extra sense of confidence in the A.T. data available in the FarOut app, given it was informed by ATC experience and expertise. Additionally, ATC members, current and new, will enjoy the added benefit of a discount off FarOut A.T. map purchases.”
"We’re very excited to collaborate with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, an organization that shares our dedication to improving the hiking experience,” said FarOut CEO Paul Bodnar. “By merging FarOut’s mapping technology with the ATC’s decades of expertise, we’re delivering the most accurate and complete trail data to hikers. This partnership not only enhances safety and confidence on the Appalachian Trail but also contributes to preserving this iconic route for future adventurers."
This partnership also will benefit the Appalachian Trail, with a portion of the proceeds from each FarOut A.T. map and A.T. derived maps purchase going to support the ATC’s mission.
