You're not normally allowed to take plants out of a national park, but come this Saturday you'll be able to walk away from Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area with some of the natives. But it's for a good cause.

From 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday the annual Santa Monica Mountains Native Plant Fair will be held at Rancho Sierra Vista in Newbury Park, California. The fair offers native plants for sale, educational materials on gardening with natives, and tours of the National Park Service’s ethnobotanic garden and native plant nursery.

There also will be a special planting event at 10 a.m. to help restore parkland.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Santa Monica Mountains Fund.

To reach the fair, the Rancho Sierra Vista main parking lot is at the intersection of Lynn Road (in Google Maps it is West Potrero Road) and Via Goleta on the south side. Follow the entrance road to the end for a parking lot, restroom facilities. Signs will direct you to the plant fair area. Accessible parking is available via the Service Entrance (Danielson Road) off Potrero Road.
