"Beach Fire" in Yellowstone National Park Nearly Contained

Fire bosses in Yellowstone National Park say the "Beach Fire" is nearly fully contained and has grown no larger than 520 acres.

With containment achieved around 95 percent of the fire's perimeter, crews now will simply monitor the fire activity and respond as necessary, a release from the park said Friday. As unburned fuels within the containment lines continue to smolder and burn, park visitors might see smoke from time to time, the release said.

The fire was spotted in mid-July burning in a forest of sub alpine fire about 7 miles west-southwest of the Bridge Bay Campground. The fire is burning in the backcountry several miles away from any roads trails, campgrounds, and lodging. All park roads, entrances and facilities are open. No trails or backcountry campsites are impacted by the fire.
