Grand Canyon National Park Rangers Working to Recover Body Thought To Be That Of Missing Woman

Grand Canyon National Park rangers were working this morning to recover a body thought to be that of a woman reported missing by her husband. The body was located about 600 feet below the South Rim.

The husband reported his wife missing about 4 p.m. Wednesday after returning from the restroom at the Yavapai Geology Museum. About an hour later rangers spotted the body below the rim, park officials said today.

Due to waning light and quickly dropping temperatures, a decision was made to wait until this morning to send rangers in to recover the body. Rangers are hiking in to the body at this time in order to document the scene and prepare the body for transport.

The body will be transported to the rim via helicopter where it will be met by the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
