Cape Hatteras National Seashore To Hold Public Hearings On New Beach Access Points

When Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials implemented an off-road management plan for the 70-mile-long seashore off North Carolina's coast, they agreed to create new public access points to the beach. Next week the public will get a chance to discuss those plans.

Seashore Superintendent Barclay Trimble says an additional public meeting has been scheduled to provide basic information and hear questions and comments regarding the Park Service proposal to provide new access points.

Public meetings are scheduled as follows:

* Monday, July 15, at the South Wing of Fire Station 16, Town of Nags Head, from 3 p.m. -– 6 p.m.

* Tuesday, July 16, on Hatteras Island at the Avon Fire Hall from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

* Wednesday, July 17, on Ocracoke Island at the Ocracoke School from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

These open house format meetings will provide an opportunity to view maps and information and interact with park staff who will answer questions.
