Plan Seeks to Make Gateway National Recreation Area an "Iconic Urban National Park"

What would you do if you were in charge of the largest waterfront property in New York City? Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, New York Mayor Bloomberg and other dignitaries gathered earlier this week in New York City to discuss some possible answers to that question, and they involve plans to transform Gateway National Recreation Area into an "iconic urban national park."

Updated: Wildfire Leads To Closure and Close Escape at Carlsbad Caverns National Park

A fast-moving wildlife that started on June 13 at Carlsbad Caverns National Park led to a closure and evacuation of the park. The fire burned over the park's developed area, but quick action by personnel from the park and surrounding area resulted in a near-miraculous save for both structures and people.
