Five more fishers have been released into the forests of Olympic National Park, just the latest released in a nearly two decades-long project to restore the native species to Washington State.

A small section of Sequoia National Park, which has been closed since mid-September by wildfires, is set to reopen Thursday.

Though the coronavirus pandemic sent crowds into the National Park System and elsewhere in the great outdoors, the pandemic took a roughly $100 billion toll on the outdoor industry due to supply chain problems, loss of international travelers, and decisions by many travelers to postpone their adventures.

A 27-year-old woman who headed out into Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes at Death Valley National Park for a hike of a couple hours was found dead roughly a mile-and-a-half from her vehicle.
