Flowerpots And Other Wonders Of Fathom Five National Marine Park

Perched on the rocky shore of a wilderness island in Georgian Bay, two “flowerpots” stand a respectful distance from each other, oblivious to the crowds surrounding them and the commotion they have caused for two centuries. These gravity-defying, some say mythical, sea stacks were formed when lake erosion “ate” at either side of stronger parts of the rock and eventually left the pillars isolated on the shore. Isolated in a geographic sense, yes — but rarely alone.

Cape Cod's Beech Forest To Be Inducted Into The Old-Growth Forest Network

This coming Friday the Beech Forest at Cape Cod National Seashore in Massachusetts will be formally inducted into the national Old-Growth Forest Network. To celebrate the dedication of this protected forest, a ceremony will be held at the Beech Forest trailhead at 11 a.m. Eastern, followed by a short trail walk with a plant ecologist.

Thermal Kames: The Unique Glacial Hills Of Yellowstone’s Geyser Basins

Yellowstone is covered with evidence of glaciers. About 22,000 to 14,000 years ago, during the most recent ice age, ice draped the region to a thickness of a kilometer—that’s over half a mile! When the ice melted, it left debris everywhere, mantling much of the surface of Yellowstone National Park. For example, Hayden Valley, located between Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, contains glacial and lake sediment associated with multiple ice ages.

Senators Still Waiting On Answers Regarding Recreation.Gov

Months after they wrote Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack regarding a private company being paid tens of millions of dollars to manage the website that serves as a national portal for accessing recreational activities on federal lands, Sens. Chuck Grassley and John Barasso are still waiting for answers.
