Ever-rising costs in the battle against aquatic invasive species in the National Park System are driving up the costs of boating in some parks.

Campground fee increases will take effect for Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks in California on January 1. This is the first of two increases, with the second set to take effect in 2024, according to a park release. This phased increase brings the two parks' campground fees in line with prices of similar campgrounds in the area and follows a public comment period that was announced in August 2022.

As the National Parks Traveler's readership has grown, so too has the number of comments posted on the site. Frankly, it's gotten too unwieldy, with too many veering off topic, to the point where a staff as small as the Traveler's cannot manage it. As a result, the comments section is shutting down for the foreseeable future.
